Theresa spent her growing up years in Ontario, coming of family of 7 children. She grew up in a small town of Grimsby where she first learned community was important, as parents and 80 other parents of eventual families built their first homes in a building co-op.
She began to study piano at a young age and picked up singing lessons in grade 6. She always felt nourished by music and found choosing the right songs to sing when off on her own would help express and thus release emotions she felt strongly.
In 1981 she moved to Ashcroft/Cache Creek and continued music lessons, at a Grade 9 level with 10 years of lessons, including one year of Honours Bachelor of Music. Meeting her husband, having a son, moving to Kamloops, and juggling family and teaching music, it was another 13 years before she completed grade 8 piano and the Associate Level of Voice, and all the theory requirements for an Associate Diploma with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Performance in Singing.
Theresa has been involved musically in her communities. She taught music lessons in her home, to all ages, for 35 years, and in Kamloops she worked a few years at United Music, and World of Music. She was a leader of song at church, and directed adult choir for several years, and had a children’s choir periodically.
She has sung in various choirs including Vivace Singers in Kamloops and Sage Sound Singers in Ashcroft, and has performed solos with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Thompson Valley Orchestra, and Kamloops Brandenburg Orchestra. She also has sung solo and led the singing for many funerals and some weddings over the years.
Recently Theresa has been involved in Musicals as choral singer, soloist, and/or music director for My Fair Lady, Anne of Green Gables and Shrek.
Last year Theresa enjoyed co-directing the Desert Bells Handbell Choir.
Currently Theresa has a membership with the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is a BC Registered Music Teacher. She also is a member of the BC Choral Federation.
